Federal highway safety officials expanded a warning about defective air bags on Tuesday night, saying more vehicles sold in the U.S. are involved in recalls over the potentially deadly problem.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration urged owners of affected vehicles to immediately act on recall notices to replace defective airbags made by Takata.

The air bag canisters are believed to explode during crashes under certain conditions, sending shrapnel toward motorists. Safety advocates say the defect has been implicated in four deaths worldwide and dozens of injuries.

Dodge Brothers Rip Along During A 100-Year Car Chase

[ad name=”G-HorLinks”]

Chrysler is living a weird double life right now. They have the whole Dodge mojo working with the Hellcat powered Challenger and Charger, they have the blown Challenger Drag Pack on the way, and they have a pretty robust of engines that fall below that Hellcat mill to keep things interesting as well. They are also producing a LOT of killer advertising.

Extended Auto Warranties

Get your extended auto warranty quote!
An extended vehicle warranty could save you thousands of dollars if your car has major problems after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, and there are plenty of people who swear by the prolonged protection. But critics argue that extended warranties, which also are called vehicle protection plans or service contracts, don’t always pay off.

Who’s right? Who’s wrong? The truth is, it depends. Not all extended warranties are created equal. Ultimately, the value you get from such a contract will depend on whom you buy it from, when you buy it and how well you understand the terms of coverage. Here are a few tips to help guide your decision.

2015 Mustang GT New Feature

[ad name=”G-Leader”]
[ad name=”G-HorLinks”]
Ford new electronic line-lock for the 2015 Mustang GTFord’s new electronic line-lock for the 2015 Mustang GT. The feature, which will be standard on all new Mustang GTs, locks the front brakes once engaged, allowing for easy, smoky burnouts.

The feature was developed to make it easier for drag racers to warm up their tires in the burnout box. The electronic system uses the hydraulic control unit of the stability control system to hold the front brakes while releasing the rears — all without having to apply the brake pedal. Once the brakes are locked, the driver can do a quick burnout to warm up the tires, or reduce them to a cloud of smoke to the delight of friends and neighbors. The standard electronic line-lock feature eliminates the need to install a mechanical line-lock, which requires modifications to the brakes. “Mustang offers selectable drive modes for those who prefer to compete on road courses or in autocross events,” said Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak in a release. “So when we realized we could provide a really cool feature like electronic line-lock that no-one else offers.

[ad name=”G-Rectangle-right”]Ford significantly redesigned the Mustang for 2015. It has a new suspension featuring an independent rear setup, beefier brakes, an upgraded infotainment system with MyFord Touch and more interior space. It’s all wrapped in sleeker styling that accentuates its fastback silhouette and improves aerodynamics while still channeling the appearance of the original 1960s pony car.

Meanwhile, fears that the Mustang’s new technologies would result in a significant weight gain were overstated. According to a Ford slide shown at the Dearborn presentation, the lightest model is the EcoBoost four-cylinder with an automatic transmission, which checks in with a base curb weight of 3,524 pounds. That’s only 28 pounds heavier than last year’s lightest model, the V6 with a manual.

The rest of the lineup is similarly trim. The base curb weight of the 2015 V6 fastback with a six-speed manual transmission is 3,526 pounds, a 30-pound increase from the 2014 model. A V6 with an automatic is 3,530 pounds (up just 12 pounds), followed by the EcoBoost with a manual (3,532 pounds).

The GT packed on 87 pounds, and now weighs 3,705, and the GT with an automatic gained 54 pounds to now weigh 3,729 pounds.

[ad name=”G-Rectangle-left”]A choice of manual or automatic transmission will be offered regardless of engine selection. The six-speed Getrag manual has a redesigned linkage, although we’re even more excited that Ford has moved the cup holders out of the way of the stick. The six-speed automatic gets paddle shifters, and Ford says that now operates with reduced friction. Launch control is standard on the Mustang GT.

the new 2015 Mustang GT accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and gallops through the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 112.2 mph. That’s just a tick slower than the last performance-pack-equipped 2013 Mustang GT we tested. The old S197 model ties the 2015 model in a race to 60 mph and completes the quarter mile a tick faster at 12.7 seconds, with a 111.7 mph trap speed. Big six-piston Brembo front brakes help the new Mustang come to a stop from 60 mph in 107 feet, a yard shorter than the outgoing model.

2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS

[ad name=”G-Leader”]
2015 Chevrolet Camaro SSIf the regular V6-powered Camaro lacks the horsepower you’re seeking, perhaps it’s time to take a look at the V8-motivated Camaro SS. The high-performance model first arrived at dealers as a range-topping model, but now with the arrival of the ZL1 and Z/28, the SS occupies the middle ground.
The Camaro SS is motivated by a 6.2-liter V8 that can be had in two forms depending on transmission selection. When coupled with the six-speed automatic transmission, the SS is good for 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, while opting for the manual gearbox will net an additional 26 horsepower and 10 torque, for a grand total of 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

[ad name=”G-Rectangle-right”]The more powerful version of the SS, with its six-speed manual transmission, will return 16 city, 24 highway miles per gallon. Opting for the automatic will raise the highway figure to 25 mpg.
Other SS goodies include four-piston Brembo brakes, a sportier FE3 suspension and Competitive/Sport modes for the car’s StabiliTrak stability control system, including launch control for manual SS models.
Of note, GM claims the Camaro SS lapped Germany’s Nurburgring in 8 minutes 20 seconds. While not as blistering as the Corvette ZR1’s 7:26.4 second lap, it still puts the car in some pretty decent company, such as the E46 BMW M3.
The Camaro SS recently gained an electric power steering system taken from the fine-handling ZL1. Despite this addition, the Camaro SS remains slightly less nimble than its main competitor – the Ford Mustang – due largely to its heftier curb weight. It continues to offer up a comfortable ride and excellent directional stability, however.
Inside, the Camaro recently received a minor cabin update with a new steering wheel and a revised gauge cluster. While the changes help make the car’s stylish interior a bit more user-friendly, they do little to mitigate the visibility problems created by the show-car exterior styling – thick pillars and a high beltline mean that seeing out of the sides and back of the Camaro can be a challenge. Thankfully, Chevrolet does offer an optional backup camera.
New to the Camaro is an optional MyLink infotainment system, which offers voice control of certain entertainment functions and includes Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and streaming audio via Pandora radio and Stitcher SmartRadio. MyLink comes with a color touchscreen and can be outfitted with navigation.
Trim Level Breakdown
The entry-level 1SS trim comes standard with A/C, full power accessories, a six-speaker FM/CM/CD/SiriusXM stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, power-reclining front seats, cruise control, keyless entry and 20-inch painted aluminum wheels. The 2LS brings an automatic gearbox.
The 2SS adds leather upholstery, an eight-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system with a USB port, an auxiliary four-gauge cluster, a heads-up display and a rearview camera.
An RS appearance package is available on the SS and includes HID headlamps with an integrated halo ring feature, spoiler, specific tail lamps and 20-inch wheels. There is also a recently added Rear Vision Package with combines Rear Park Assist, Rear Vision Camera and inside rearview auto-dimming mirror with built-in rearview camera display.
1LE Package
2015 CamaroThe 1LE package adds several goodies from the top-spec Camaro ZL1 while keeping the overall bottom line in check. Aimed at the road racing crowd, it can be added to 1SS and 2SS trim levels equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. However, 1LE cars ditch the SS standard Tremec TR6060-M10 in favor of a performance-tuned Tremec TR6060-MM6 with a numerically higher 3.91 final-drive ratio.
The 1LE also replaces the twin-tube dampers found on standard SS cars with monotube rear dampers, which Chevrolet says provides better body-motion control while maintaining a comfortable on-road ride. Other 1LE performance upgrades include larger stabilizer bars, a strengthened rear end, strut tower brace and a ZL1-derived high capacity fuel pump. A dual-mode exhaust system will stand as a 1LE option.
Although those improvements don’t change the Camaro SS 426 horsepower rating, Chevy says the car can pull 1g in the corners.
In order to visually set the 1LE apart from its SS counterparts, the package includes a matte-black hood, front splitter and rear spoiler, as well as 10-spoke alloy wheels borrowed from the ZL1. Inside the 1LE borrows even more content from the ZL1, including a flat-bottomed steering wheel and shift knob.
Occupant Safety
All Camaro SS models are equipped with dual front, front side and full-length side-curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems.
